Hans is a native of Switzerland,
where he spent a large part of his life. He is thus capable to welcome his
guests not only in English, but also in Swiss and High German, as well as (to a
certain degree) in French. He loves Canada - the country of his choice - and
especially all the space that comes with it. It is his aim to introduce
typical Swiss hospitality into Country Pleasures Bed & Breakfast
Dana grew up in Saskatchewan, but
moved to Alberta many years ago. Although Hans did most of the renovation work,
he followed the designs of his wife Dana who has trained as an Interior
Designer. She very much owns this joint venture with Hans.
Hans & Dana live in their own
residence just beside the Bed & Breakfast, which guarantees guests their
privacy.

The
origins of the main building are humble. In 1895 a family dragged a granary onto
the property and turned it into a home. As the family grew in size, they added
two more granaries, completing the original size of the home. Owners changed
hands and somewhere along the road, the home was clad in brick. In the year
1950 the property was bought by the Drinnan family, who would own it for not
less than 52 years. Numerous out buildings were constructed during this time.
Over the years Mr. Drinnan added a second floor to the home, and finally a den
in which his family spent many happy hours warmed by its fireplace.
In 2002 Mr. Drinnan parted with
his family home when he sold the house and property to Hans & Dana Ryffel.
Beginning in August 2002 Hans, with the help of Dana, lovingly renovated the
gracious old home, the overall theme being reminiscent of a country farm house.
Hand-stitched quilts and curtains, warm colors and comfy furniture all
contribute to a cozy casual atmosphere. The first guests were welcomed in May
2003. Additional improvements have been made on an annual basis and in the
future, your hosts plan many more projects to make Country Pleasures an even
more exciting place than it is already.
